Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and self denial, so that Christians may begin a Holy Lent in preparation for Easter. If you are unable to make a complete fast, please consider fasting from a favorite food or drink, in order to deny your body and turn again to God. Ash Wednesday is a day of public repentance and group confession. If you would like to make a private confession in order to be reconciled to God, the traditional day is Shrove Tuesday (from the English "to shrive" or confess your sins to a priest and receive God's forgiveness.)
